The celebrities you never would have known were from Herts

The county of Hertfordshire has had many well known names and faces who have lived here at some stage in their lives.

We have created a list with some of the people who have one thing in common with you, that’s Hertfordshire.

Maybe some of these big names were – or still are – just around the corner from your doorstep.

Anthony Joshua – Watford

AJ is a British professional boxer who grew up in Watford, Hertfordshire.

He is a British professional boxer of Nigerian descent who is a two-time unified heavyweight champion, having held the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles since December 2019 and previously between 2016 and June 2019.

James Bay – Hitchin

James Michael Bay is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist who grew up in Hitchin.

In 2014, he released his single “Hold Back the River”, which was certified platinum, before releasing his debut studio album Chaos and the Calm.

The album went to number one in the UK and number 15 in the US.

Molly-Mae Hughes – Hitchin

She is best known for starring in reality TV show, Love Island 2019, where she came runner up with still current boyfriend, Tommy Fury – Tyson Fury’s brother.

Jack Wilshire – Hitchin

Jack Andrew Garry Wilshere is an English professional footballer who most recently played as a midfielder for Premier League club West Ham United and the England national team.

He captained his school team, The Priory School, while studying in Hitchin.

Rupert Grint – Hertford

Rupert Grint a.k.a Ron Weasley in Harry Potter, was born and raised in Hertford and went to the Richard Hale School.

He has also stayed in Hertfordshire as an adult, where he started a booming property business.

Reports suggest he owns property worth over £24million in Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.

Guy Ritchie – Hatfield

He is an English film director, producer and writer from Hatfield.

He is best known for his crime films, including Sherlock Holmes, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver.

Montana Brown – Hemel Hempstead

Another Love Island contestant from 2017. The 21 -year-old grew up in Hemel Hempstead.

Unfortunately she didn’t win the reality game show.

KSI – Watford

Olajide Olayinka Williams “JJ” Olatunji, better known as KSI, is a 27-year-old YouTuber, internet personality, rapper, actor, and boxer.

He is also a member and co-founder of the British YouTube group known as the Sidemen.

Max Whitlock MBE – Hemel Hempstead

The British gymnast is a five-time Olympic medallist, winning two golds and three bronzes at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, and he became Britain’s first ever gold medalist in artistic gymnastics.

Lacey Turner – Radlett/Shenley

You may well know her as Stacey from Eastenders. Lacey lives in the area with her family and partner.

The English actress has won over thirty awards for the BBC soap opera including four National Television Awards and ten British Soap Awards. She is also known for her work on Bedlam and Switch, as well as Our Girl.

George Ezra – Hertford

George Ezra is an English singer, songwriter and guitarist.

The musician grew up in Hertford before moving to Bristol to study music.

Ezra rose to prominence with the release of his hit single, “Budapest”, which reached number one in several countries.

Michael Portillo – Bushey

Michael Portillo is a British journalist, broadcaster and former politician known for presenting Great British Railway Journeys and Great Continental Railway Journeys.

He has gone on to make several hit TV shows after his unexpected electoral loss in 1997.

Gino D’Acampo – Hoddesdon

The successful Italian TV chef lives in a Grade II listed property in Hoddesdon.

He is the only star to opt for a townhouse, therefore, your are very likely to spot him in the area.

Alesha Dixon – Welwyn Garden City

Alesha Dixon is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and dancer.

She is best known for being on the judging panel on The X Factor and previously on Strictly Come Dancing.

Dixon rose to fame in 2001 as a member of the all-female R&B/garage/rap trio Mis-Teeq.

The group disbanded in 2005 and Dixon pursued a music career as a solo artist, signing a recording contract to Polydor Records

Geri Halliwell – Watford

Geraldine Estelle Horner, is an English singer, songwriter, author, actress, and philanthropist.

She rose to prominence in the 1990s as Ginger Spice, a member of the pop girl group the Spice Girls with over 85 million records sold worldwide

Victoria Beckham – Goffs Oak

The singer, fashion designer and television personality rose to prominence in the 1990s as a member of the girl group the Spice Girls, in which she was nicknamed Posh Spice.

The Beckham’s were possibly the county’s most famous residents until they sold their Sawbridgeworth and moved to the US in 2007.
