Ricky Gervais spotted in Hemel as star films new After Life series

Filming for Ricky Gervais’ hit comedy series After Life has begun in Herts – and a police officer couldn’t wait to get in on the action.

The comedian has been filming the third series of the popular Netflix programme in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, throughout this week.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted Gervais, writer of the Office, Extras and Derek, walking around the Old Town.

One Police Community Support Officer from Dacorum Police was lucky enough to stop the comic in his tracks and pose for a photo.

Thankfully Gervais wasn’t causing a nuisance as he wandered through the streets.

The post read: “Ello, ello, ello, now what ‘ave we got ‘ere then?

“Our Police Community Support Officers never know who they may come across when on patrol in Dacorum.”

Earlier this week, one resident spotted a fair popping up in Gadebridge Park, including a carousel and a dozen stalls.

There was also a sign warning residents that the fair wasn’t open to the public and that filming was in progress.

The comedy-drama is created, written, produced and directed by Gervais who also stars as the main character, Tony.

The Old Town has played a key part in the previous two instalments and provides the setting for the Tambury Gazette – a free local newspaper where Tony works as a features editor.

Tony’s life is turned upside down after his wife Lisa, played by Kerry Godliman, dies from breast cancer.

He says and does whatever he wants, and the show is adored for its powerful and relatable insight into dealing with grief and depression.

Other cast members include Letchworth’s Mandeep Dhillon, Game of Thrones’ Tony Way, Diane Morgan, Roisin Conaty, David Earl, Joe Wilkinson and Tom Basden, all of whom have appeared in Gervais’ previous creations.

After Life was renewed for a third season back in May last year and it’s the first time a fictional series created by Gervais has been extended beyond two seasons.
