90-minute delays on M1 after serious crash between lorry and car

There are severe delays on the M1 in Hertfordshire after a crash involving a lorry and a car.

The incident happened on the northbound carriageway between junction 7 (for the A414, St Albans and Hatfield) and junction 8 (for the A414 and Hemel Hempstead).

Traffic was immediately held after the crash causing major delays in the area.

Currently three of four lanes are shut with traffic only able to pass the scene in the outside lane only.

There are severe delays of between 60 to 90 minutes.

Hertfordshire Constabulary officers are on the scene and recovery has been arranged. Highways England officers are also attending the incident.

There are currently delays between J6a (M25 Interchange) and the scene of the crash.

As a result motorists are being advised to allow plenty of extra time for your journey if you are planning on using the M1 northbound in Hertfordshire this evening.

You should also consider alternative routes if possible.

Normal traffic conditions are not expected until much later this evening, according to Traffic England.
